Suffolk’s History, told in a way you’d like to tell your friends.
“Hey, you’re that history guy!”
That’s what people started coming up to me and saying at the beginning of 2026. What started as a few short videos spreading the awareness of my Suffolk Holiday Cottage business, quickly went a bit ballistic, raking in millions of views, thousands of comments, and sparking a massive community of people who were learning things they never knew about this lovely county!
I’m Carl, the ‘History Guy’ behind this channel dedicated to bringing the folklore, history, and ghostly tales of Suffolk (and a bit of Tuscany) to life.
When you’ve watched the videos, you might want to come and stay in the county where they actually happened.

Who is That History Guy?
Hello, I’m Carl.
I dig up the history, folklore and ghostly tales of Suffolk (and Tuscany) and tell you all about them on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
In this guise I’m a History and Folklore storyteller and the owner of Woodfarm Barns, a Dog-Friendly Holiday Cottage business in Suffolk, and Tuscany. I’m also a spy, but please keep that to yourself.
Real places, real people, and the odd thing that still can’t be explained, told properly and honestly, with a sprinkling of enthusiasm.
What will you find on the channel?
Short videos about the history and folklore of Suffolk (and a bit of Tuscany).
The Black Shuck, the spectral hellhound said to have burst into a Suffolk church in 1577 and left scorch marks on the door, village legends, local saints and sinners, and the people history quietly forgot. If a detail isn’t verified, I’ll tell you rather than make something up to sound clever. Sounding clever is not my special power.
Fancy staying where the stories happened?
You can! Woodfarm Barns is my Dog-Friendly Holiday Accommodation business in Suffolk, right in the heart of the country these tales come from.
Genuinely secure, properly comfortable, and built with dogs treated as guests of honour rather than an afterthought. Walk the lanes by day, hear the stories by night, and decide for yourself which ones you want to go and check out!
Want to book me for a programme?
I’ll take on television, radio, podcast appearances, journalist enquiries, and collaborations. If you need someone who can tell a regional history story and make people lean in, get in touch.
Stay with us
